What Patients & Families Say

Frequently asked questions.

Do you treat adults with special needs?

Yes. We are one of the only practices in Florida specialising in sedation dentistry for adults with special needs including Down Syndrome, autism spectrum disorders, cognitive and developmental disabilities, and complex medical conditions.

My loved one was treated by a pediatric dentist but has now outgrown that practice. Can you help?

Yes. This is a very common situation. Pediatric dentists frequently refer their adult special needs patients to us to continue their care safely under sedation.

What if my family member becomes uncooperative in a dental chair?

Sedation removes the barrier entirely. Once sedated, even patients who are typically uncooperative become manageable and comfortable. We can complete a full examination, cleaning, and treatment in a single visit.

Can you treat patients who come in a wheelchair?

Yes. We have treated patients who cannot be transferred to a dental chair and can accommodate treatment in the patient’s own wheelchair when necessary.

How much sedation is needed for a special needs patient?

Generally less than you might expect. Many special needs patients require only a small amount of sedation to achieve full relaxation. We carefully monitor every patient throughout and tailor the dosage individually.

Is sedation safe for patients with complex medical conditions?

Yes, with appropriate preparation. For medically complex patients we obtain medical clearance from the patient’s physician before treatment. All sedation is administered to hospital-grade monitoring standards.

Who accompanies the patient home after sedation?

A responsible adult companion must accompany the patient to the appointment and take them home afterward. Our team will advise you on everything to prepare before and after the visit.
